The Minnesota Department of Revenue's Minneapolis fact sheet (revised February 2025) says lodging tax is in addition to the 6.875% state sales tax and several county, city and metro-area taxes, and totals 12.025% for properties with 50 rooms or less and 15.025% for those with more than 50 rooms. Local lodging taxes elsewhere vary and we could not verify other cities' rates. The calculator below applies the verified components for a Minneapolis property with more than 50 rooms, so treat its total as a floor.

Minneapolis hotel-tax calculator (properties with more than 50 rooms)

This calculator adds the components in the Minnesota Department of Revenue's Minneapolis fact sheet for a lodging property with more than 50 rooms: 6.875% state sales tax, 0.15% Hennepin County, 0.5% Hennepin County transit, 0.5% Minneapolis sales, 0.25% metro housing, 0.75% metro transportation, the 3% Minneapolis entertainment tax and the 3% Minneapolis lodging tax, for a 15.025% total. Properties with 50 rooms or less total 12.025%, so do not use this for them. It does not include resort or service fees or parking, so your actual total may be higher. Use it only for Minneapolis stays. Ask your hotel for its all-in rate.
